5 Preludes for Tenor Saxophone & Piano (2011)

Andrew Steinberg - Tenor Saxophone

Lachlan Glen - Piano

This piece was one of the first I ever wrote back at Rutgers. I remember talking with my composition teacher at the time, Dr. Craig Levesque, and he told me to write a piece for solo instrument and piano. He wanted me to write for an instrument I was familiar with so I chose saxophone. I approached my friend Andrew Streinberg to see if he would be interested in performing my soon to be written piece. He said agreed and I began work on the piece.

This piece was very difficult for me to write because I was so new at composing. I was very self conscious, which made putting notes onto paper very hard. I decided to keep it simple and write 5 shorts movements so as not to give myself a heart attack. When all was said and done I liked what I had written, but now going back, I wish I had written more. I plan on using this material again and flushing out the ideas.
