This piece was written during my first semester of composition studies at Montclair. It's an aggressive sprint from start to finish for Alto Saxophone, Bass Clarinet, and Marimba. The unique instrumentation came about largely because of the musicians I had available. Myself on saxophone, my wife on bass clarinet, and my friend and colleague Phil on marimba.
The piece was designed to be aggressively rhythmic and melodic and feature each instrument's strengths. There are lot of punchy passages in the bass clarinet paired with soaring melodies in the saxophone and chunky chords in the marimba. It's a short blast of a piece that comes hot out the gate and finished with flourish!
