Brass Quintet (2012)

Score (PDF): Movement I viewable, not printable

I started this piece in my last year at Rutgers. I intended for it to be a 2 movement piece, but only had time to write the first movement. It never got performed, but was read once and I got a rough recording of it. During my student teaching, I met my current composition teacher Dave Sampson and he wanted me to finish the piece.

I ended up practically rewriting the first movement and writing a second movement. The first movement is meant to invoke a sense of grandeur and expansion. Almost as if when you walk into a giant cathedral and the ceiling and walls just explode away from you the further in you walk. It also has a contemplative tone and open and closes with a chorale. The second movement is more aggressive and combative with some serene moments as well. The piece is dedicated to my brother Andrew.
